Consolations

Psalm 94:19 When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

When someone is a contestant on a game show, often they will be given a consolation prize. No matter how great the prize is, there are no do overs. You have been labeled the runner up. This means that you have lost and are eliminated. Another name for these consolations are parting gifts. All their worries and anxieties are temporarily calmed. The psalmist tells us that God’s consolations do more than calm the mind and body. They cheer the eternal part of mankind, the soul. All our cares, worries, and anxieties are permanently released. We are set free and given a second chance. And by His grace we find chance after chance. Every time we fall, He is there to pick us up again. When they say you’re a loser, He calls you a winner! So let us trade in the runner up, your eliminated, loser blues. I’m laying them down for the Lord’s consolations. Hey, didn’t someone write a song about trading our sorrows?
